Meet our team – recently we caught up with our Principal, David Littlejohn, to learn more about his career, highlights, achievements and what’s next for Michael Benjamin & Associates.

Where did it all begin?

David commenced his legal career as an Associate to His Honour Judge Tim Wood QC in 1998, followed by Articles of Clerkship in 1999 / 2000 at Deacons Graham James (now Norton Rose Fulbright).

Admitted into practice in March 2000, he practiced as a Member of the Victorian Bar until 2007. Since then, David has been employed as a solicitor at the Victorian Department of Justice, Department of Education & Training and leading Australian law firm, Russell Kennedy Lawyers until 2014. Following this, he commenced a sole practice known as Littlejohn Legal for almost five years.

Let’s talk about today.

David purchased the medium sized suburban legal firm Michael Benjamin & Associates from its founder, Michael Benjamin in 2019. Our team of lawyers and conveyancers work across many areas of practice and we pride ourselves on our down to earth and approachable team culture.

As a former barrister, David is able to diligently advocate for clients in court, and bring a wealth of experience in both public and private sector, in areas such as criminal law, property law, commercial law, litigation, family law among others.

What type of clients do you work with?

We provide legal services for communities (families, individuals and businesses) in the Southeast of Melbourne. We support our customers in the practice areas of family law, criminal law, aged care, elder law and retirement living, commercial and business law, litigation and dispute resolution, migration and citizenship, property and real estate, wills, probate and administration.

You’ve been in the legal profession for over 20 years, what other experience do you bring?

Experience as board member community kindergarten and disability service provider.

Significant experience as Counsel and solicitor advocate in legally aided jurisdictions, working with disadvantaged groups and social workers who serve them.

Significant experience in government law and familiarity with regulatory environments and legislative processes.

Diverse perspectives on legal practice (BigLaw, Victorian Bar, State government, medium sized firms as both employee and principal, sole practice).

We are very excited to be the proud sponsor of Tiffanee Cook’s “Roll with the Punches” podcast and TV show on channel 31. Roll with the Punches is a great podcast and TV show that explores the human experience with world renowned experts, scientists, psychologists and thought leaders. Tiffanee’s podcast started as a source of amusement during lockdown in June 2020, when her gyms were shut down and she couldn’t work as a Personal Trainer (PT). In under 18 months, Tiffanee has produced over 250 episodes and has featured some amazing guests and stories.
